Gifford Middle School Band Parent Association

Mission Statement

The Gifford Middle School Band Parents Association, Inc. (GMSBPA) is the official school-sanctioned parental support group for the Gifford Middle School Bands. Its purpose is to enhance the band program by various means: providing funds through fund-raising efforts, chaperoning band activities, supplying a volunteer workforce for clerical and other everyday activities, maintaining concert bow ties and cummerbunds, publishing a newsletter, and other support activities as needed. The GMSBPA is here to assist the band students and the band director in whatever manner is needed to achieve a smooth and orderly band program.

Board Responsibilities

President - Runs board meetings & general meetings; oversees all other activities.
Vice-President - Assists president.
Secretary - Records minutes for board and general meetings.
Treasurer - Keeps financial records of band activities.
Logistics - Arranges for moving of band equipment.
Chaperone Coordinator - Works with the phone tree helpers to secure chaperones for events.

Volunteers

GMSBPA needs a large number of volunteers for many functions and activities. There are a number of committees and positions that provide opportunities for you to help support the band. If you are available for one or more of the following positions, please contact the GMSBPA at: info@gmsband.com

  • Teal Shirt Coordinator: Monitor inventory of teal shirts, assist with distribution.
  • Composite Photo Coordinator: Arrange wallet size photos of 7th & 8th grade band students into large frames to hang on the wall of the band room.
  • Hospitality: Members of this committee take turns coordinating refreshments for several band events.
  • Phone Tree Helper: Make phone calls to secure chaperones/volunteers for events.
  • Bow Tie & Cummerbund Coordinator: Oversee inventory, distribution, collection and cleaning of bow ties & cummerbunds.
  • Membership & Volunteer Database Coordinator: Organize membership & volunteer forms, maintain an Excel database with parent contact information.
  • End-of-Year Trip Coordinator: Coordinate end-of-year trip activities.
  • Awards Ceremony & Dance Decorations Coordinator: Develop a decorations theme for events and set-up/take-down decorations before/after events.

Fund Raisers

The GMS BPA and the band students sponsor several fundraising events during the year. The proceeds are used to pay for our office equipment and supplies, sheet music for the students, busses to transport the students to band events, rental trailers to move the band equipment and instruments, concert expenses, cleaning of bow ties and cummerbunds, instrument repair, musical equipment, instructional materials, postage, legal expenses, clinicians, band camp and band camp scholarships, and hospitality. Fundraisers include the Dolphin Dash, Vidalia onion sales in the spring, and snow-cone sales after school on Thursdays. Contact us at info@gmsband.com if you would like to participate.
